Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, part of Jumeirah Group, the Dubai-based luxury hotel company and a member of Dubai Holding, is proud to announce it has been accredited with the internationally renowned Green Globe Certification (GGC). The hotel achieved a score of 90% in the audit.

The hotel was credited for its paperless check-in, limiting promotional material in guest rooms and encouraging the use of iPads at concierge to display information to guests. Auditors were impressed with the hotel’s preventive maintenance plan and water and electricity saving measures, which are applied throughout the property.

Other key features at the hotel that contributed to the Green Globe Certification include the use of eco-wood in external areas of the resort, a solar water heater at Plaj restaurant to generate hot water and the organic garden in which crops and aromatic herbs are grown for chefs. The hotel also sells candles to support ‘Children of the Mountain,’ an organisation that helps the poorest children in rural Nepal, providing them with opportunities through education and personal development.

Rahul Sharma, Resident Manager, said: “Achieving the Green Globe Certification is a great credit to Jumeirah Zabeel Saray and we are thrilled to have been recognised and awarded with an outstanding score of 90%. The Engineering Department in particular places great emphasis on improving the resort’s economic, social and environmental sustainability. This of course wouldn’t be possible without the passion, dedication and commitment from all colleagues across the resort.”

The hotel now joins a growing list of Jumeirah properties which have already gained Green globe certification for their commitment to the environment, including Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Emirates Towers and Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence. Jumeirah Emirates Towers was the first property to receive the GGC and has been approved for the third year running. The hotel’s current audit score of 91% is the highest in the UAE and the Gulf region. Burj Al Arab Jumeirah was awarded the GCC after impressing in all areas of the audit, Jumeirah Beach Hotel was certified for its outstanding sustainability management plan and Jumeirah Living World Trade Centre Residence became the first mixed-use property in Dubai to be accredited.

GGC is the premier worldwide sustainability stamp for the tourism industry and is made up of 337 compliance indicators, applied to 41 individual sustainability criteria. The Green Globe Standard is a structured assessment of the sustainability performance of travel and tourism businesses and their supply chain partners.
